Treasures

“You never know when it will be the last time you’ll see your father, or kiss your wife, or play with your little brother, but there’s always a last time.” – “This is where I leave you” – by Jonathan Tropper

Two of my great loves are literature and music. Other than friendship, a smile, and a kind word……..absolutely nothing moves me like wonderful writing and stop you in your tracks beautiful music.

I remember reading “Treasure Island” and “Tom Sawyer” early in life. Most likely between the ages of 7 and 10. Talk about living a fantasy. My embryonic imagination stirred and the universe opened like a spring flower.

With a good book, I’m never alone or bored.

My earliest memory of a “music moment” was listening to Patti Page singing “Tennessee Waltz” on the radio. It was 1950. I was 7 years old.

While I could not understand at that young age the heartache of young love, the music and the sad tone of her voice conveyed quite clearly the pain contained in the lyrics. A human being was suffering and the tears fell like rain.

I have cherished those great loves my entire life. I cannot imagine living without either.

The great writers and musicians throughout history have been and are truly blessed creatures. They are a few of God’s greatest gifts to man.

“A sad thing in life is when you meet someone who means a lot to you, only to find out in the end that it was never meant to be and you just have to let go.” – Unknown
