Low gas prices are good news for many. Not for me.

I work security for drilling rigs in the Eagle Ford.

There is a very direct correlation between our employment and the price of crude oil.

We can survive without the extra income but we cannot meet our obligations to other people without it. People are dependent on our ability to help.

And that is an alarming potential crisis.

Understand…….this is not a plea for sympathy. There are millions suffering all over the world and our problems probably pale in comparison to many of them.

Nevertheless……..as the price of crude drops and oil companies cut back, there is real angst in our world.

The oil co we work with has shut down 12 drilling rigs in 8 weeks. Each drilling rig, directly or indirectly, employs approximately 600 men and women.

Most of them have families and obligations.

To date, the Eagle Ford has lost about 75 drilling rigs and more will follow. About 19,000 jobs……….poof. Gone. Another 25,000 hanging on by a thread.

Consider something more subdued, like a soft shoe, instead of that tap dance at the pump.
